In residential design, it’s essential to strategically allocate balcony areas and determine which units include them in your feasibility studies to maximize project value.
With Zenerate, users can add or remove balconies from a building with just one click—making it a go-to feasibility study software for AEC professionals.
Adding balconies to all units
With Zenerate, adding balconies to all units in your building layout is incredibly simple:
1. Click Edit at the bottom of your screen.,2. Select the building layout where you'd like to add balconies.,3. Toggle the Balcony option on the right-hand side of the screen.
Once activated, balconies will automatically appear on every unit across all floors of the selected building layout.
To remove the balconies, simply turn off the Balcony toggle, and they will disappear from the entire building layout.

Adding balconies to specific units
Zenerate also makes it easy to add balconies to specific units in your layout. Here’s how:
1. Double click on your selected building layout.,2. Select the unit you want to add a balcony to.,3. Turn on the balcony toggle for that specific unit.
A balcony will automatically be assigned to the selected unit, and when the toggle is turned off, only the balcony for that specific unit will be removed.

Editing balconies
Currently, balconies can only be edited individually, and you can make a variety of adjustments to suit your design needs, such as:
Move Balcony Locations
Simply drag and drop the balcony to reposition it. Ensure that the balcony is attached to a side of the unit to avoid errors.,Modify Balcony Shape and Size
To change the shape of a balcony, drag and drop any of the control points. You can reshape it however you like. Additionally, adjust the size by dragging the balcony lines or by inputting precise measurements in the editing bar.,Include Balconies in FAR and Density Calculations
To factor in balcony space for FAR (Floor Area Ratio) and density calculations, check the respective boxes in the balcony editing bar.
Whether or not the balcony area is included into your calculations would be up to you.
