Getting the right unit mix for your building layout is key to maximizing space efficiency and profitability. Zenerate makes it easy for architects and developers to test and refine unit mix strategies with powerful AI-driven design tools.
In this guide, we’ll show you two simple ways to optimize your unit mix using Zenerate—whether you're starting from scratch or modifying an existing layout.
Unit Mix on AI Generation
Before generating initial building layouts with Zenerate, you can define your target unit mix and area upfront. This ensures that all generated design options closely follow your desired mix and space allocations.
How to set your unit mix before AI generation:
1. Click on AI Generate,2. Select your desired Quick Concept for a specific building type,3. Navigate to Unit Mix & Area,4. Input your target unit sizes and unit mix ratio,5. Click Apply, then Generate
Zenerate will then produce multiple design options that reflect the unit mix distribution you specified. This approach is ideal for feasibility studies or when you already have a preferred unit mix ratio.

Changing Unit Mix On Existing Building Layout
If you already have a layout in your workspace and want to explore different unit mix combinations, Zenerate lets you easily adjust unit sizes and ratios, then instantly regenerates your layout to match the new configuration.
Steps to change the unit mix on an existing layout:
1. Select the building layout you want to edit,2. Use the toolbar on the right to adjust the units average area and ratio
Tip: Use the lock icon to maintain a total of 100%—this allows you to set the ratio for one unit type and have the others auto-calculated accordingly.,3. Click Apply to regenerate the layout based on your new unit mix
After regeneration, you can review how closely the new solution aligns with your targets by looking at the unit count data on the left-hand side. Zenerate intelligently balances your input ratios with real-world layout possibilities.
