The latest Zenerate updates give you more control over how you refine, review, and communicate your designs. Adjust mid-rise building shapes while preserving existing unit edits, configure building elevations on terrain, and explore your project by floor or elevation. New annotation tools, unit mirroring, flexible labels, and reusable generation boundaries also make it easier to develop layouts and prepare them for sharing.

Below, explore what’s new and how each feature fits into your workflow.

Partial and Full Regeneration Improvements

Mid-rise buildings using the Unit Library now support Partial Regenerate, making it easier to adjust building shapes while preserving existing unit layouts and edits.

• Extend buildings to add units only in newly created sections
• Shorten buildings while preserving units in the remaining sections
• Retain existing unit edits, compatible corner units, and intentionally empty areas
• To regenerate the entire building, click Regenerate in the toolbar.

Full Regenerate has also been improved for mid-rise buildings, with more consistent placement based on selected Typical Units and Corner Type Preferences.

Building Elevation Control

Building ground elevations can now be configured in Typical Floor Setup, giving you more control over how buildings sit on terrain.

• Snap to Lowest of Footprint: Use the lowest terrain elevation within the building footprint
• Snap to Midpoint of Footprint: Use the midpoint between the lowest and highest terrain elevations within the footprint
• Snap to Highest of Footprint: Use the highest terrain elevation within the building footprint
• Custom Elevation: Enter a fixed ground elevation manually

Terrain-based elevations automatically update when buildings move or their footprints change. Custom elevations remain fixed.

• Review Elevation and MSL values for each floor
• Preview updated floor elevations before applying changes
• Update upper-floor elevations automatically when floor-to-floor heights change
• Apply ground elevation changes in both 2D and 3D
• Keep residential buildings on podiums aligned with the podium roof elevation

Elevation and MSL View Modes

New View Reference options let you explore your project by floor, project elevation, or mean sea level.

• Switch between Floor, Project Elevation, and Mean Sea Level (MSL) using the settings button beside the floor selector

• Adjust the viewing elevation using a slider or enter a value directly
• Use the +/− buttons to move in increments of 10 ft or 3 m
• View the corresponding floor of each building at the same elevation
• Explore elevations below or above the project’s slider range
• Show underground shading only in areas below the actual terrain surface
• Preserve view settings when refreshing or reopening a solution

Flat Component Projection

Flat components now follow the terrain surface, helping prevent them from appearing above or below the ground.

Supported components include:

• Driveways and parking stalls
• Parking lots
• Site boundaries and setbacks
• Zones
• Individual parking stalls

Components retain their plan geometry and automatically update their projection when terrain is enabled, components are moved, or site grading changes. This works across both single-site and multi-site projects.

Annotation Tools

New annotation tools make it easier to communicate design intent and highlight key information directly in the workspace. Annotations you add will also appear in your PDF reports.

Text

Add and position text notes with customizable formatting.

• Adjust text size, bold formatting, and color.
• Click on the toolbar or use Ctrl+B to toggle bold.
• Change color and access recently used colors from the color palette.

Dimensions

Add dimensions to measure and communicate distances in your layout.

• Select a start point and an endpoint with snapping support
• Preview the measured distance while drawing
• Position the dimension line by adjusting its offset
• Reposition dimension lines after placement

Unit Mirror

Units and Rooms/Areas can now be mirrored directly in the workspace.

• Preview the mirrored layout before placement
• Click the placement arrow to create a mirrored copy
• Mirror attached balconies together with the unit
• Keep the newly created unit selected for further editing
• Preserve mirrored layouts during Partial Regenerate in supported buildings

Unit Mirror is available for editable, typical, and fixed units across supported Midrise, Tower, Walkup, and Tenda Tower configurations.

Building Labels and View Options

Building labels can now be edited directly in the workspace, with additional view controls for plan readability.

Building Label Editing

• Double-click a building label to rename it
• Keep building names synchronized with the building panel
• Show or hide individual building labels
• Adjust each building label’s font size

2D View Options

• Show or hide building labels across the view
• Toggle Unit/Room/Area names and area values separately
• Adjust all Unit/Room/Area label sizes at once

Generation Boundary History

Generation boundaries can now be reviewed and reused in Generate Here and Create AI Solutions.
